en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 15, Australian mining exploration company Kingsrose Mining announced that the Finnish mining regulatory authority Tukes has granted an exploration permit and an early execution order for Zone 6 of its Penikat platinum group metals (PGM) project, approving up to 5,000 meters of drilling per year during the designated season. The project is located in the Lapland region of northern Finland. The company plans to commence drilling in January 2027, focusing on evaluating the extension of platinum, palladium and other PGM mineralization zones.

Under the permit conditions, the regular drilling window runs from August 1 each year to March 31 of the following year. The exploration permit is valid for 4 years after obtaining legal effect, with extensions of 3 years each time, up to a cumulative maximum validity of 15 years. The early execution order approved at the same time allows the company to conduct restricted drilling while the exploration permit is under appeal, with annual drilling footage not exceeding 3,000 meters, subject to operational distance restrictions related to nature conservation areas.

Zone 6 was carved out by Kingsrose in April 2026 from the original Zone 4 of the Penikat project and is located outside the Natura 2000 ecological protection area and peat bog protection areas. Under the early execution order, drilling locations must maintain the prescribed distances from protected areas—at least 100 meters in forested areas and at least 200 meters in open terrain. The appeal deadline for the exploration permit and early execution order is November 20, 2026.

Previous exploration permits for the Penikat project had been subject to judicial review. In December 2025, the Administrative Court of Northern Finland revoked the Zone 1 exploration permit due to procedural issues in permit processing and ordered Tukes to re-examine the matter. Kingsrose subsequently adjusted the sequence of its exploration permit applications, designating Zone 6 as the near-term drilling priority. The company plans to use diamond drill rigs to test the extension of the AP mineralization zone and further evaluate the continuity of PGM mineralization.

Kingsrose previously announced a JORC-standard exploration target for the Penikat project of 21 million to 32 million tonnes of ore, with a combined grade of 4.0 to 7.4 g/t for six metals, corresponding to a combined metal content of 2.8 million to 7.7 million ounces of platinum, palladium, gold, rhodium, iridium and ruthenium. This data represents a conceptual exploration target based on historical exploration data and does not yet constitute a JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate.
