Planning Application Submitted for £20 Million Leisure Complex Project in the UK

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sefton Council in the UK has announced that Lumira Group has submitted a planning application for a leisure complex development project adjacent to Bootle Golf Course, proposing to introduce approximately £20 million in private investment. The project is located at the junction of Dunnings Bridge Road and Boundary Road in Bootle, and is planned to include a hotel, a modern golf clubhouse, padel courts, five-a-side football pitches, and community cultural activity facilities. It has now entered the planning approval process.

The development site is located on vacant land adjacent to the existing 18-hole Bootle Golf Course. Current Sefton Council information shows that the project involves the area where the original clubhouse stood and some hardstanding currently used for parking and equipment storage; the original clubhouse building is already in a derelict state. In addition to sports facilities, the proposed complex also plans to include dining, leisure, and community activity spaces as well as a dedicated podcast production facility.

Sefton Council and Lumira Group announced their partnership plan in March 2026. Under the preliminary arrangements between the two parties, Lumira Group intends to lease the development land at the junction of Dunnings Bridge Road and Boundary Road and build the new facilities in phases. On 24 September, the relevant responsible person at Sefton Council made a decision confirming the development lease arrangement for the site and authorizing the legal department to complete the supporting lease agreement documents. The long-term operation and management of the existing golf course is intended to be taken over by Lumira Group, with the specific management agreement still to be determined separately.

The planning application also includes updates to the existing golf course's service facilities. Sefton Council requires that the development arrangements continue to preserve public golf services for existing members, local residents, young people, and elderly users, and that the relevant usage conditions be implemented in the subsequent operating agreement. The new hotel, course, and community facilities will be reviewed under the planning application process, and residents may submit comments during the planning review.
