en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 15, the Ho Chi Minh City government of Vietnam approved an adjustment to the investment scale of the Long Son Petrochemical Complex, increasing the total project investment from US$5.656 billion to US$6.156 billion, a rise of US$500 million, equivalent to approximately VND 148.98 trillion. The project is implemented by Long Son Petrochemical Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Thailand's Siam Cement Group, and is located in the Long Son area of Ho Chi Minh City. This investment adjustment involves the construction of raw material storage and transportation facilities and technical upgrades to the olefin plant, while the project's original construction objectives and production capacity scale remain unchanged.

Long Son Petrochemical is constructing new raw material storage tank facilities and upgrading the olefin production plant to increase its capacity to use ethane feedstock. As of June 2026, the main raw material storage tank works were 61.5% complete, and the ethane adaptation upgrade of the olefin plant was 42.9% complete; both works are scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2028. After the upgrade, the complex will have an annual olefin production capacity of up to 1.35 million tons, with a designed annual production capacity of more than 1.4 million tons for polyethylene, polypropylene and other petrochemical products.

The complex covers an area of approximately 398 hectares, with an additional approximately 66 hectares of water area and approximately 194 hectares of water area for port facilities. Its products include ethylene, propylene, butadiene, high-density polyethylene, linear low-density polyethylene and polypropylene. The project has been suspended since mid-May 2026 and is scheduled to remain shut down until March 2027, during which polyolefin product sales and raw material facility upgrade works will continue. In this investment adjustment, the Ho Chi Minh City government requires Long Son Petrochemical Co., Ltd. to implement project financing and construction arrangements.
