PetroChina's Annual Ethylene Capacity Exceeds 12 Million Tons

In the first three quarters of 2026, ethylene output increased by 26.4% year on year, hitting a record high for the same period. Currently, PetroChina's total annual ethylene capacity exceeds 12 million tons, with six of its subsidiaries each reaching an annual capacity of one million tons. The expansion of the group's ethylene production scale has been advanced in tandem with the commissioning of multiple petrochemical projects this year, output increases at existing facilities, and optimization of production systems.

PetroChina recently completed the commercial operation milestone of the Dushanzi Petrochemical Tarim 1.2 million tons/year Phase II ethylene and supporting green low-carbon demonstration project. The project achieved successful startup on July 16, completed the full production process on July 25, and completed its first high-load performance test on September 24. On October 15, PetroChina announced that the project had fully entered commercial operation, giving the group a 3 million-ton-level ethylene industry operating capacity in Xinjiang.

Daqing Petrochemical, Guangxi Petrochemical, and Sichuan Petrochemical also made progress in ethylene production and capacity this year. Among them, Daqing Petrochemical had produced more than 1 million tons of ethylene cumulatively as of October 5, achieving annual output of over 1 million tons for the 11th consecutive year. The company commissioned a catalytic dry gas C2 recovery unit to recover and utilize ethylene components from refining and chemical tail gas, increasing ethylene output by approximately 40 tons per day. In the first three quarters, the ethylene yield of Daqing Petrochemical's cracking unit increased by 1.09 percentage points year on year.

Ethylene prices in the Asian market have recently remained at high levels. Market data released by Longzhong Information on October 27 showed that the CFR prices of Northeast Asian ethylene on October 23 and 26 were both USD 1,190/ton. Data from CUsteel for the same period showed that on October 23, the Northeast Asian ethylene price rose by USD 30/ton compared with the previous trading day's quotation, while the Southeast Asian ethylene price reached USD 1,130/ton.
