Canadian Co-op Invests Over C$2.6 Million to Build Fertilizer Blending Plant
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Lloydminster & District Co-op has announced a fertilizer facility investment plan, proposing to invest more than C$2.6 million to build a new fertilizer blending plant in Neilburg, Saskatchewan, replacing the existing fertilizer handling system. The project is scheduled to begin site preparation in fall 2026, with bulk fertilizer storage bins to be installed in spring 2027. The main construction scope includes an automated blending system, fertilizer handling equipment, and loading and unloading support facilities.

The new plant will be equipped with a volumetric blending system consisting of 8 storage bins, capable of handling a variety of fertilizer products, including controlled-release nitrogen fertilizers and micronutrient fertilizers. The facility will also install a Procote fertilizer treatment system and introduce automated blending technology to achieve proportioning and mixing of different fertilizer components. Kara Johnston, Director of Agricultural Operations at the Co-op, stated that the new facility will expand the range of fertilizer products offered at the Neilburg agricultural service center.
Material receiving and outbound shipping will also be upgraded in tandem. The engineering plan includes a bucket elevator receiving system, conveying equipment, top-discharge weighing devices, and loading and unloading facility upgrades. The new blending plant adopts a centralized equipment layout, eliminating the need for loaders to transfer materials within the blending workshop; fertilizer receiving, blending, and loading processes will be carried out by the corresponding mechanical equipment.
Civil works and supporting infrastructure at the site also include a new fertilizer business office facility, site grading, drainage system upgrades, and vehicle traffic route adjustments. The project is being implemented on the basis of the existing Neilburg agricultural service facility, where liquid fertilizer, dry fertilizer, and anhydrous ammonia agricultural inputs are already supplied. The new plant will replace the existing fertilizer blending infrastructure.
