en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 26, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Jahra Governorate for the North Kabd Wastewater Treatment Plant and supporting facilities project undertaken by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC). The project covers an area of approximately 2.8 million square meters. The wastewater treatment plant has an initial design capacity of 500,000 cubic meters per day and can be expanded to 1 million cubic meters per day in the future, making it the largest wastewater treatment project currently in Kuwait. Kuwaiti Minister of Public Works Noura Al-Mashaan, Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Yang Xin, and representatives of the Chinese contracting enterprise attended the ceremony.

The project is organized and implemented by Kuwait's Ministry of Public Works, with CSCEC responsible for design, procurement, construction, and operation and maintenance. The two parties signed the project contract in Kuwait on July 26, 2026, with a contract value of approximately USD 3.3 billion, covering the construction of the wastewater treatment plant and related supporting facilities. The engineering contract includes long-term operation and maintenance arrangements.

The sewage collection and conveyance system includes supporting pump stations in areas such as Al-Shaqaya, Jahra, and Mishref, as well as sewage conveyance pipelines and underground tunnel works. Some of the underground conveyance pipelines are designed with a maximum diameter of 3 meters, and the supporting water storage facilities have a total capacity of approximately 600,000 cubic meters. The project will also include reclaimed water conveyance facilities, with treated wastewater planned for irrigation and landscaping purposes.

The wastewater treatment plant is planned to be equipped with centralized incineration facilities to handle waste generated during the wastewater purification process. The plant's energy system is intended to combine solar power and biogas utilization, with the goal of meeting approximately 50% of the project's energy demand. The above facilities, together with the wastewater treatment, pump stations, conveyance pipelines, and water storage systems, are all included in the scope of this construction project.
