en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 28, Spanish engineering company Técnicas Reunidas was awarded an equipment supply contract by Nigeria's Dangote Group to provide two hydrogen production reforming furnaces for a new urea fertilizer complex in Gode, Somali Region, Ethiopia. The equipment has a combined design hydrogen production capacity of more than 200,000 standard cubic meters per hour. The contract covers design, procurement, manufacturing, and free on board (FOB) delivery, with a maximum supply period of 18 months. The supporting fertilizer plant is planned to produce 3 million tons of urea per year.

The equipment order will be executed by TR-Technical, a business unit of Técnicas Reunidas, which will undertake the engineering design, material procurement, manufacturing, and delivery of the two reforming furnaces. Denmark's Topsoe serves as the technology licensor for the reforming furnaces, providing the related process technology. The contract adopts FOB delivery terms, with the equipment delivery scope and the overall plant construction scope agreed separately.

The two reforming furnaces will be installed in the hydrogen production and synthetic ammonia production sections of the Gode fertilizer complex, using natural gas to produce hydrogen required for synthetic ammonia, which will be supplied to the downstream urea manufacturing units. The fertilizer plant is being developed jointly by Dangote Group and Ethiopian Investment Holdings, which hold 60% and 40% stakes in the project respectively. The overall project investment is planned at USD 2.5 billion.

Construction of the Gode fertilizer complex began in October 2025. The project plans to use natural gas from Ethiopia's Calub gas field as feedstock and includes the construction of approximately 108 kilometers of natural gas transmission pipeline. In May 2026, the Ethiopian government organized an on-site inspection, confirming that construction was underway in multiple areas of the plant.
