China XD's 750 kV gapless surge arrester was successfully energized and put into operation on the Baoshan II Line

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, the YH20WX-600/1330 750 kV compact and lightweight gapless surge arrester developed by XD Surge Arrester, a subsidiary of China XD, in collaboration with the Electric Power Research Institute of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Co., Ltd., China Electric Power Research Institute, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Shaanxi Electric Power Design Institute, was successfully energized and put into operation at Tower No. 300 of the Baoshan II Line. The equipment adopts a structure of high-gradient resistor discs connected in series with multi-section elements, which can simultaneously suppress lightning overvoltage and switching overvoltage on transmission lines, and has entered the stage of on-site demonstration application on the line.

In view of the installation space on towers and on-site hoisting conditions of 750 kV transmission lines, the R&D team adopted a compact and lightweight design and integrated the internal elements and supporting structures of the surge arrester. The product uses high-gradient resistor discs and forms the gapless surge arrester body through multi-section elements connected in series, achieving coordinated suppression of lightning overvoltage and switching overvoltage. Compared with conventional line surge arresters with series gaps, this equipment adopts a gapless technical solution.

During product development and delivery, the project team carried out multiple rounds of technical scheme verification around tower installation points, hoisting operations, and accessory integration requirements. Due to the large variety of supporting parts and accessories, XD Surge Arrester organized relevant departments to complete parts verification, complete-set assembly, and packaging and shipping, and arranged technical personnel to stay on site to support equipment installation and commissioning, ultimately completing the energization and commissioning at Tower No. 300.
