Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 3, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and CIMC ENRIC Holdings Limited (CIMC ENRIC) have entered into a strategic partnership to advance the development of green methanol and hydrogen energy, supporting Hong Kong’s transition toward low-carbon energy.

The agreement focuses on enhancing cooperation in green methanol technology, engineering services, and compliance with industry standards and carbon trading mechanisms. Towngas, the first Chinese enterprise to receive both ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS certifications for large-scale green methanol production, will contribute its complete green methanol supply chain resources. This will be combined with CIMC ENRIC’s expertise in clean energy and marine sectors to explore new applications and accelerate the adoption of green methanol solutions.

Leveraging Hong Kong’s role as an international centre for commerce and innovation, both companies aim to promote the advancement and integration of green energy in the region and beyond.

In addition to their work in green methanol, Towngas and CIMC ENRIC have signed a separate cooperation agreement to jointly develop hydrogen energy projects in Hong Kong. The scope includes full-cycle cooperation in hydrogen production, purification, storage, and application. Presently, hydrogen accounts for about half of Towngas’s local gas supply, which is delivered through a pipeline network extending over 3,700 kilometres across the territory.

Through this collaboration, the companies will develop improved hydrogen extraction and storage technologies and expand hydrogen-related applications in areas such as transportation, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and other urban services.

A spokesperson for Towngas emphasized the significance of the initiative: “This partnership aligns with our long-term strategy to lead clean energy innovation and expand our contribution to sustainable development. It enhances Hong Kong’s energy resilience while creating more green energy solutions.”

Towngas continues to focus on clean energy investment and innovation. By utilizing its industry experience and building strong partnerships, the company aims to contribute to the national “30-60” dual carbon goals, which target carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. It also supports the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The agreement marks an important step toward scaling up green energy deployment in Hong Kong, with joint efforts aimed at expanding technological capabilities and promoting practical, sustainable solutions for energy transformation.
