Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 9, Cleantech company Cavotec has secured additional contracts worth €9.35 million (approximately $10.9 million) with an undisclosed shipping operator to supply shore power systems for container vessels. The new orders cover both retrofitting existing ships and outfitting newly built boxships.

Specifically, the retrofitting order, valued at around €5.5 million ($6.4 million), involves installing Cavotec’s shore power solutions on a substantial number of existing vessels. According to the company, these projects will be executed while the ships remain operational along routes between Asia, the United States, and Europe. Equipment handovers are scheduled to begin later this year and continue through the end of 2026.

The second order, worth €3.8 million ($4.4 million), supplements a €8.1 million ($9.4 million) contract previously announced in May. This project focuses on equipping newly constructed containerships with shore power systems, with deliveries expected to start in the second half of 2026. Cavotec highlighted that its shore power solutions allow vessels to connect to electricity while at berth, substantially reducing harmful emissions and supporting compliance with international environmental standards, including the International Maritime Organization’s Net Zero Framework (NZF).

Over the past year, Cavotec has strengthened its partnerships with maritime operators aiming to improve environmental performance. In Europe, the company received three shore power orders totaling €7 million ($8.1 million) for Italian ports, designed to reduce emissions and enhance air quality. Deliveries for these projects, announced in January 2025, are also planned for 2026.

In June, Cavotec collaborated with energy services provider Equans to provide shore power systems for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges cruise terminal, further expanding its footprint in Europe. Beyond the continent, Cavotec was commissioned by the Mohan Mutha Group to deliver the Maldives’ first shore power system, marking another milestone in its global expansion.

Cavotec representatives emphasized that the adoption of shore power not only cuts pollutant emissions significantly but also aligns with growing regulatory and industry requirements for cleaner maritime operations. The systems are designed to support operators in meeting international climate and air quality targets while maintaining operational efficiency for vessels during port stays.

Through these recent contracts and ongoing initiatives, Cavotec continues to advance its mission of enabling sustainable shipping. By integrating shore power solutions on both new and existing container vessels, the company aims to help the maritime sector reduce its environmental impact, comply with evolving regulations, and contribute to global decarbonization efforts.
