Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 31, On the morning of October 28, Gotion High-Tech officially broke ground on its battery gigafactory in Šurany, Slovakia, marking the country’s first project of this kind, according to a WeChat post by the company. The Gotion Slovakia Battery Gigafactory will cover 65 hectares within Šurany’s strategic industrial park and is designed for an initial production capacity of 20 GWh. Trial production is scheduled for 2026, with full-scale operations planned for 2027. Most of the batteries produced will serve the European Union market. The first phase of the project is expected to create around 1,300 jobs locally.

Cai Yi, President of Gotion High-Tech’s Europe and Africa division, stated: “The new gigafactory will supply batteries for the next generation of electric vehicles, strengthening our operational reach and market presence in Europe. Leveraging local resources will enhance production efficiency and competitiveness while supporting Europe’s net-zero transition and fostering a sustainable mobility ecosystem.”

The gigafactory represents one of Slovakia’s most significant new energy investments and is expected to attract a cluster of new energy vehicle (NEV) supply chain companies to the region. The project is anticipated to boost local industrial activity and create synergies with suppliers and partners in battery and EV manufacturing.

Li Zhen, Chairman of Gotion High-Tech, highlighted the strategic importance of the plant, saying: “We aim to make ‘Made in Slovakia’ batteries a driving force for sustainable development and a symbol of harmony between technology and ecology. This facility will serve as a cornerstone for regional industrial growth and demonstrate how advanced manufacturing can coexist with environmental stewardship.”

The gigafactory will integrate advanced production technologies to ensure high efficiency, quality, and reliability. Gotion High-Tech intends to implement automated battery assembly lines, cutting-edge quality control systems, and sustainable operational practices, including energy-efficient facilities and responsible resource management.

Beyond production, the project is expected to play a role in strengthening Europe’s EV ecosystem. By providing reliable, locally manufactured batteries, Gotion High-Tech aims to support automakers and accelerate the adoption of electric mobility across the EU. The factory will also foster local talent development, offering opportunities in engineering, manufacturing, and research for the region’s workforce.

Overall, the Gotion Slovakia Battery Gigafactory signals a major step in expanding the company’s European footprint and reflects growing investment in sustainable energy and transportation infrastructure in Central Europe. It is positioned to become a hub for technological innovation, industrial growth, and regional economic development, while contributing to the broader goal of decarbonizing mobility across the continent.
