Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 31, QatarEnergy, the state-owned oil and gas company of Qatar, has signed a multi-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with India’s Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC). The 17-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA) will allow QatarEnergy to supply up to 1 million tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG to India, with deliveries made ex-ship to Indian terminals starting in 2026.
This SPA builds on a previous long-term LNG agreement between the two companies, signed in 2019, reflecting ongoing confidence and cooperation. The agreement highlights a shared vision for a sustainable energy future and strengthens bilateral energy ties between Qatar and India.
Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QatarEnergy President and CEO, said: “We are delighted to extend our valued partnership with GSPC through this long-term SPA, which highlights our continued commitment to supporting India’s growing energy needs. This collaboration not only reinforces the enduring ties between our two companies but also contributes to India’s vision of enhancing its energy security and transitioning towards a cleaner energy mix. QatarEnergy remains committed to delivering safe and reliable LNG supplies to support India in its endeavors.”
The SPA is expected to bolster India’s energy security and support its efforts to transition towards cleaner energy sources. It also underscores QatarEnergy’s broader strategy of strengthening global partnerships, promoting cleaner energy solutions, and supporting the economic development goals of key international markets.
This LNG supply agreement comes shortly after QatarEnergy began utilizing LNG storage and regasification capacity at a major LNG terminal in the United Kingdom, reflecting the company’s growing role in global LNG markets.
Under the new agreement, the LNG deliveries to India will be structured to ensure consistent supply and operational reliability, supporting industrial, commercial, and power generation demand across the country. The deal is part of a broader trend of long-term LNG contracts that help importing nations secure stable, low-emission energy sources while providing exporting countries with predictable revenue streams.
The collaboration between QatarEnergy and GSPC demonstrates how long-term partnerships in the energy sector can facilitate mutual growth, operational efficiency, and sustainability objectives. Both companies aim to leverage the SPA to enhance supply chain resilience and support the broader energy transition in India, which is focusing on integrating cleaner fuels into its domestic energy mix.
Overall, the new 17-year LNG SPA is a significant step in strengthening India-Qatar energy relations, supporting cleaner energy adoption, and providing reliable natural gas supply to meet India’s growing domestic and industrial demand, while reinforcing QatarEnergy’s position as a leading global LNG supplier.
