Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 6, A.P. Moller – Maersk has inaugurated its largest contract logistics center in the Asia Pacific region, the Maersk Mega Distribution Centre in Malaysia, increasing its regional warehousing capacity by more than 30 percent.

The facility covers nearly 180,000 square meters and accommodates 100,000 pallet positions. It serves multiple clients across sectors including fast-moving consumer goods, food and beverages, footwear, and apparel.

Elaine Low, Area Managing Director for Southeast Asia at Maersk, said: “Domestic consumption is strong, and we see growing opportunities to support businesses across sectors in Malaysia. Shared resources in this facility deliver cost-efficiency and operational agility, helping customers scale seamlessly during peak periods.”

KS Chang, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics Asia Pacific, said: “This facility is among our largest contract logistics sites globally. It strengthens our ability to provide reliable, flexible supply chains and modern automated solutions.”

Positioned in Shah Alam, the center offers direct connectivity to major highways and Port Klang, while lying approximately 340 kilometers from the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, a significant transshipment node.

Daily road transport connects to cities such as Ipoh, Penang, Johor, Malacca, and Kota Bharu, with integrated sea, air, and land routes extending to East Malaysia and other Asian locations.

YB Anthony Loke, Minister of Transport Malaysia, said the facility enhances Malaysia’s logistics network and supports its goal to become the ‘Logistics Gateway to Asia’.

Advanced technologies deployed include Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), Put-to-Light (PTL) systems, and an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), which accelerate order processing and improve accuracy.

Comprehensive services encompass end-to-end transport coordination, bonded and non-bonded storage, plus value-added operations like labeling, repackaging, returns handling, and quality assurance.

The center integrates Maersk’s Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for real-time tracking of inventory and shipments.

Certified GBI Gold and LEED Gold, the site incorporates solar panels, intelligent LED lighting, rainwater collection, and robust safety measures.

This development underscores the increasing importance of automated, strategically located logistics hubs in optimizing regional supply chains. The Mega DC enables Maersk to meet rising demand for efficient distribution while maintaining high sustainability standards. Its multi-modal connectivity facilitates seamless movement of goods across domestic and international markets, supporting business growth in a dynamic economic environment.

By consolidating operations under one roof, clients benefit from reduced handling times and lower costs, particularly during high-volume seasons. The shared infrastructure model promotes resource optimization without compromising service quality or flexibility.

Maersk’s investment reflects confidence in Malaysia’s role as a logistics powerhouse, driven by expanding trade flows and consumer markets. The center’s design prioritizes operational resilience, with redundant systems ensuring continuity amid varying demand patterns.

Future expansions may incorporate additional digital tools, such as predictive analytics for inventory forecasting, further enhancing decision-making. As e-commerce and just-in-time delivery gain traction, facilities like the Mega DC position operators to respond swiftly to market shifts.

Overall, the launch marks a milestone in Maersk’s regional strategy, combining scale, technology, and location to deliver integrated logistics solutions that drive efficiency and sustainability across Asia Pacific supply networks.
