Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 24, Telefónica has maintained its status as one of the leading global providers of Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, according to the “Communications Service Provider (CSP) IoT Peer Benchmarking Report 2025” published by Transforma Insights.

The independent study evaluated the strategies and capabilities of 27 major cellular IoT connectivity providers worldwide. It stated that “Telefónica continues to occupy a prominent position among the leading communications service providers for another year, thanks in large part to its in-depth industry knowledge, the extensive capabilities of Telefónica Tech and the incorporation of interesting capabilities into its connectivity offering”. The report also concluded that “Telefónica has perhaps the most comprehensive set of vertical offerings to address IoT across a wide range of sectors, including smart cities, healthcare and industry”.

Recognition centres on the strength of the Kite managed connectivity platform developed by Telefónica Tech. The platform includes advanced SIM management, open APIs, AI-enhanced data visualisation dashboards for anomaly detection, and modules such as “IoT Data Ready” for seamless integration with major cloud environments and “Asset Control” for real-time monitoring of deployed equipment including tank levels, machinery location, and infrastructure status.

Telefónica Tech also stands out for its extensive big data analytics capabilities that combine network-generated information with sensor data and external sources to deliver actionable insights across multiple industries.

By September 2025, Telefónica reported more than 51 million active IoT connections globally, with services deployed in over 190 countries. In Spain, the company leads the domestic market with over 12 million IoT lines at the end of the third quarter, reflecting year-on-year growth of 163 percent driven primarily by new applications in mobility, healthcare, utilities, and industrial digitalisation.

In the mobility sector, Telefónica Tech supplies connectivity to more than 70 percent of the connected V-16 emergency beacons certified by Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT), which will become mandatory from 1 January 2026. In healthcare, its solutions support remote monitoring systems that detect irregular patterns among elderly or vulnerable individuals and alert caregivers. In water and gas utilities, IoT-enabled smart meters allow remote reading and early detection of anomalies, while industrial deployments optimise production processes and support the transition to Industry 4.0.

Carlos Carazo, global director of product, technology and IoT operations at Telefónica Tech, said: “The IoT allows objects to be brought to life, transforming them from analogue things into connected devices capable of securely exchanging data. In short, we see the IoT as the eyes and ears that capture information from the environment so that other technologies, such as artificial intelligence, can function as the brain and interpret and analyse it to help organisations make more informed business decisions.”

The continued expansion of Telefónica’s IoT portfolio demonstrates sustained investment in secure, scalable connectivity combined with value-added services that enable digital transformation across diverse sectors worldwide.
