Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 26, Panasonic Energy, a subsidiary of Panasonic Holdings, announced on Tuesday that it has signed a multi-year contract to supply high-performance 2170 cylindrical battery cells to Zoox, Amazon's autonomous-vehicle unit, with deliveries scheduled to begin in early 2026.

"Panasonic Energy will deliver its latest 2170 batteries beginning in early 2026 to support Zoox's growing robotaxi service and operations," the company stated in its release.

Initial production will take place at Panasonic Energy facilities in Japan, with subsequent volumes planned for the company's manufacturing plant in Kansas, United States. Panasonic Energy already serves as a major battery supplier to Tesla and other automotive customers.

The agreement follows Zoox's recent launch of free public rides for selected users in portions of San Francisco, marking a step toward broader deployment of its purpose-built robotaxi fleet.

Panasonic Energy's 2170 cells are widely recognised for their energy density and reliability, making them suitable for the demanding requirements of autonomous electric vehicles that operate continuously in urban environments.

The partnership strengthens Panasonic's position in the expanding market for batteries used in advanced mobility applications, including robotaxi services that require high uptime and rapid charging capabilities.

Last month, Panasonic Holdings adjusted its full-year profit forecast downward, reflecting softer-than-expected demand in certain segments of the U.S. electric-vehicle market. Despite that revision, the new long-term supply commitment with Zoox demonstrates continued confidence in growth opportunities within specialised autonomous-transport applications.

The collaboration between Panasonic Energy and Zoox supports both companies' objectives to advance sustainable urban transportation through reliable, high-quality battery technology and innovative vehicle design.
