Wedoany.com Report-Dec.11, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has signed a new Terminal Service Agreement with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, further solidifying its long-term partnership with the port of Colombo. The agreement establishes a more structured operational framework aimed at enhancing service reliability, improving daily coordination, and supporting future capacity expansion in line with expected volume growth.
Both MSC and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority describe the accord as a practical and forward-looking measure that will contribute to sustained efficiency and performance at the terminal.
Headquartered in Geneva and established in 1970, MSC has developed from a one-ship operation into the world's largest container shipping line by capacity. The company now serves every major global trade lane with an extensive fleet and comprehensive network. Its consistent presence in Colombo has played a key role in positioning the port as one of Asia's leading transshipment hubs, regularly contributing the highest annual container volumes and supporting continued infrastructure and commercial development.
Through regular mainline calls and dedicated feeder connections, MSC continues to facilitate efficient cargo flows between Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and other regions via Colombo.
In a separate service update, MSC has introduced a new direct transatlantic route linking Northern Spain with Canada. The newly launched Canada Express service strengthens the carrier's North Atlantic network by providing shippers with a reliable weekly connection between key ports in the Bilbao region and major destinations on Canada's east coast, including Montreal.
The new offering complements existing MSC services on the trade and is designed to meet growing demand for efficient transport solutions between Southern Europe and North America.
The Canada Express deployment features modern, high-capacity vessels equipped to handle a full range of cargo types, including dry containers, reefers, out-of-gauge, and project cargo. With fixed-day weekly scheduling, the service offers improved transit times and enhanced schedule integrity for customers moving goods in both directions.
This latest addition reflects MSC's ongoing investment in the transatlantic corridor and its commitment to delivering flexible, high-quality shipping options across global markets. Booking and schedule details are now available through local MSC offices and digital platforms.
