Wedoany.com Report-Dec.19, The final generating unit of the Yinjiang Hydropower Station in Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province, southwest China, was connected to the grid on Friday morning. This milestone has elevated Sichuan's total installed hydropower capacity above 100 million kilowatts, representing approximately one-fourth of the national total.
Sichuan serves as an important source in China's west-to-east electricity transmission initiative, annually supplying about one-third of its generated power to other regions.
Since outbound transmission commenced in 1998, the province has delivered more than 1.9 trillion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to central and eastern areas, among others. This volume is sufficient to meet the combined annual electricity needs of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces, according to data from State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Company.
The Yinjiang Hydropower Station, situated on the Jinsha River, has a total installed capacity of 390,000 kilowatts. Upon reaching full operation, it is projected to produce over 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy each year, corresponding to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 1.3 million tonnes, as stated by Yan Ruiping, chief engineer of the station's operating company.
Sichuan, often referred to as the "province of a thousand rivers," possesses abundant hydropower resources. The achievement underscores the province's ongoing contribution to expanding clean energy infrastructure and supporting national electricity supply requirements.
