Wedoany.com Report-Dec.22, On December 22, the world's first methanol dual-fuel powered intelligent very large crude carrier (VLCC), named "Kai Tuo," was successfully delivered in Dalian, Liaoning Province. This vessel was independently designed and built in China and will primarily serve the Middle East to Far East route in the future.
The "Kai Tuo" was developed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. and is classed by the China Classification Society. With an overall length of approximately 333 meters, the ship can carry about 2.1 million barrels of crude oil. In terms of green ship technology, the vessel adopts a domestically produced methanol dual-fuel main engine and supply system. Compared to traditional fuel oil, this system can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 92% and sulfur oxide emissions by 99%. The ship also integrates a domestically developed intelligent ship-based platform, cargo control system, and engine room operation and maintenance system, enhancing its operational intelligence level.
During the design and construction process of this green vessel, the project team achieved a total of 71 patent results, with many key performance indicators surpassing the design specifications. The vessel was delivered four months ahead of schedule.
