Wedoany.com Report-Dec.26, Algeria is preparing to resume construction on a new connecting road linking the historic city of Guelma to the East-West Highway. Previous work on the project had been halted.

The initiative will begin with the first 18-kilometre stretch from Guelma to Nechmaya. The full road will span 35 kilometres, passing through Héliopolis and Guelaât-Bousbaa. Guelma, capital of Guelma Province and Guelma District, is situated in Algeria's North East, approximately 65 kilometres from the coast. The new link aims to improve regional connectivity and facilitate smoother access to the national East-West Highway network.

Meanwhile, road improvement and maintenance activities continue in Médéa Province. A 10-kilometre section of the fourth bypass, connecting Djendel in Ain Defla to Hannacha, has been completed and opened to traffic. The next 12-kilometre portion between Hannacha and Bouaichoune is expected to be ready by March 2026.

Widening works are also underway on a 73-kilometre stretch of national road RN 127, linking El-Ayoune in Tissemsilt to Ksar-El-Boukhari. These upgrades will enhance capacity and safety along this key route.

Additional widening projects cover two stretches of national roads. On RN 5, 16 kilometres will be widened between Tadjenanet and Chelghoum-Laïd. On RN 27, 8 kilometres will be expanded between Constantine and Grarem-Gouga.

These road developments form part of Algeria's broader efforts to modernize and expand its national road network. The projects prioritize improved traffic flow, reduced travel times, and better connectivity between urban centres and major highways.

The Guelma link, once completed, will support economic activity in the North East by providing a more direct route to the East-West Highway. This arterial motorway spans the country from west to east, serving as a vital backbone for domestic transport.

In parallel, the ongoing maintenance and widening works in Médéa, Tissemsilt, and other areas demonstrate continued investment in upgrading existing infrastructure. Such efforts help maintain road quality, accommodate increasing traffic volumes, and enhance overall safety for users.
