European Energy Switches on 148 MW of Solar in Denmark

Wedoany.com Report-Jan.1, Danish green energy company European Energy has successfully connected its 148 MW Glejbjerg solar park to the grid. The facility is located in the Vejen municipality of southern Denmark.

The solar park features 238,368 photovoltaic modules mounted on a fixed-tilt system, supported by 572 inverters. Annual electricity production is projected to reach 133 GWh. This output corresponds to the average consumption of approximately 33,000 Danish households.

Poul Jacobsen, Executive Vice President and Head of EPC at European Energy, stated that the project was completed ahead of schedule. Construction took around one year in total.

Glejbjerg Solar Park shares the same grid connection point as the nearby 175 MW Holsted Solar Park, also owned and operated by European Energy. Holsted is already fully operational. The shared infrastructure creates a natural integration between the two sites. This setup also facilitates the incorporation of battery energy storage systems to enhance grid stability and flexibility.

The successful grid connection of Glejbjerg marks a significant addition to Denmark’s growing solar capacity. By the end of 2024, the country had surpassed 4 GW of cumulative installed solar power, according to data from the Danish PV association Dansk Solcelleforening.

Earlier this month, Swedish independent power producer Alight completed a 215 MW solar project on the island of Lolland in southern Denmark. Alight acquired the development rights for that project from European Energy in March for an undisclosed amount.

In a separate development, European Energy secured development approval earlier this week for a large-scale 1.1 GW solar project in Queensland, Australia. This approval reflects the company’s ongoing international expansion in renewable energy generation.

The Glejbjerg project demonstrates European Energy’s ability to deliver utility-scale solar developments efficiently. The use of shared grid infrastructure with Holsted optimizes costs and supports reliable renewable energy supply to the Danish grid.

These efforts contribute to Denmark’s transition toward a low-carbon energy system. The combination of large solar parks, efficient grid integration, and battery storage capability helps balance variable renewable generation and ensures consistent power availability.
