Wedoany.com Report-Dec.29, Recently, the Danish technology company Topsoe, in partnership with Skovgaard Energy and Vestas, announced that the world's first synthetic ammonia plant operating in a dynamic mode has commenced operation and begun production in Denmark. The plant utilizes renewable electricity to produce hydrogen through water electrolysis, which then reacts with nitrogen to generate green synthetic ammonia.

Located in northwestern Jutland, this plant can dynamically adjust the operating conditions of the electrolysis and ammonia synthesis processes based on real-time fluctuations in power generation from sources like wind and solar. This design aims to maximize the utilization of intermittent renewable energy, optimizing production efficiency and reducing costs. Kim Hedegaard, CEO of Topsoe's Power-to-X business, stated: "By working across the entire value chain, we are accelerating the development of green ammonia as a pathway to diversify energy supply and decarbonize energy-intensive industries and long-distance transportation, such as shipping and agriculture."

Synthetic ammonia is a crucial chemical feedstock and a potential clean energy carrier. Compared to traditional ammonia produced from fossil fuels, the green synthetic ammonia produced by this plant has a significantly lower carbon footprint throughout its lifecycle. By integrating renewable power generation, electrolytic hydrogen production, and ammonia synthesis technologies, this project aims to explore a scalable and economically viable pathway for green ammonia production.

Niels Erik Madsen, CEO of Skovgaard Energy, said: "We are incredibly proud of this groundbreaking project in northwestern Jutland, which will drive local innovation, growth, and job opportunities. It showcases the energy system of the future – scalable globally and thus accelerating the green transition."
