Wedoany.com Report-Dec.30, On December 29, Shanghai's first 100,000-ton green methanol project officially commenced operation at Shanghai Huayi Industrial Gases Co., Ltd. The project was jointly constructed by four Shanghai-based state-owned enterprises: Huayi Group, Shenergy Group, Shanghai Chengtou Group, and Shanghai International Port Group. From the commencement of piling work in January this year to achieving operational status by the end of December, the project accomplished the construction goal of "commencing, completing, and starting operation within the same year" within a one-year cycle, providing support for the green and low-carbon transformation of the Shanghai International Shipping Center.
The project aims to serve the national "Dual Carbon" strategy and support Shanghai's energy structure transformation and the shipping industry's emission reduction. It innovatively converts municipal waste into green methanol fuel required for international shipping, achieving resource recycling. As a demonstration project collaboratively promoted by municipal state-owned enterprises, the operation of this green methanol project not only provides green fuel for the Port of Shanghai but also marks Shanghai's progress in building a green energy industry chain.
Shanghai Huayi Energy and Chemical Company is responsible for the construction and operation of this green methanol project. Qu Zheng, Deputy Director of the Chemical Industry Park Administrative Committee, stated that the committee would continue to support enterprise development in the area. Chen Dasheng, Vice President of Huayi Group, noted that the project reflects the collaborative efficiency of all parties and emphasized the need to ensure high-standard operation of the facilities, exploring more cooperation in areas like clean energy in the future. Shi Pingyang, Vice President of Shenergy Group, said that the project's operation lays the foundation for the Port of Shanghai to achieve local green fuel bunkering, and Shenergy will continue to provide raw material security for the project. Guan Xuefei, a representative from the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, suggested operating the facility well to create a model for green transformation and integrating upstream and downstream resources to build an industrial ecosystem.
The person in charge of Shanghai Huayi Energy and Chemical Company stated that they would ensure the stable operation of the green methanol project and work with partners to contribute to the construction of the Shanghai International Shipping Center and the achievement of the national "Dual Carbon" goals.
