Wedoany.com Report-Dec.30, Wind power equipment manufacturer Vestas has recently secured an order to supply wind turbines for the Sinan U offshore wind project in South Korea. This marks the company's first offshore wind order in the Korean market. The Sinan U project has a total installed capacity of 390 MW and is planned to be constructed in waters near South Jeolla Province. It is being developed by a consortium comprising Hanwha Ocean, SK Eternix, Korea Midland Power Co., and other companies.
The project developer has ordered 26 V236 offshore wind turbines from Vestas, each with a capacity of 15 MW, and the order includes a 20-year Operations and Maintenance (O&M) service agreement. Purvin Patel, President of Vestas Asia Pacific, stated: "We are honored to collaborate with Hanwha Ocean on this landmark project in Korea and to introduce our industry-leading V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbine to Korean waters. These world-class turbines have already been deployed in the first projects in Europe, and production is ramping up for large-scale global deployment."
The turbine delivery for the project is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the entire wind farm expected to commence commercial operation in 2028. Vestas had already signed a Preferred Supplier Agreement with the project parties back in 2023. Son Jong-hyun, Head of Hanwha Ocean's Eco Energy & Industrial EPC Division, commented: "The Sinan U project is Korea's first utility-scale offshore wind development to fully adopt global standards, including the latest generation of offshore wind turbines, Wind Turbine Installation Vessels (WTIVs), offshore substations, and onshore grid connection systems."
