Kongsberg Maritime to Deliver System Package for Two Cadeler Wind Turbine Installation Vessels Delivering in 2030/2031
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 3, Kongsberg Maritime announced that it has secured a contract with COSCO Shipping (Qidong) Offshore to deliver a complete integrated technology package covering electrical, automation, and propulsion systems for two new T-class wind turbine installation vessels (WTIVs) for Danish company Cadeler. The vessels were ordered by Cadeler from Qidong COSCO Shipping Marine Engineering in August 2026, with a unit price of approximately EUR 400 million per vessel, and are scheduled for delivery in 2030 and 2031, respectively.
Kongsberg Maritime's scope of supply covers the vessels' full power and control systems, including: azimuth and tunnel thrusters, DP dynamic positioning systems, medium-voltage power generation and distribution systems, propulsion variable frequency drives, integrated automation platform (IAS), and energy management solutions (EMS). Based on the engineering configuration of sister vessels, the total propulsion system power per vessel is expected to exceed 30 MW, with DP positioning accuracy reaching centimeter-level, designed to meet the stringent requirements for vessel static positioning during high-altitude installation of wind turbine foundations.
The T-class vessels represent a major upgrade of Cadeler's existing A-class vessels (such as Wind Orca and Wind Ace) platforms. Compared with the A-class's main crane capacity of approximately 1,600 tonnes, the T-class vessels are equipped with a new-generation 3,000-tonne class leg-encircling crane, with the deck area expanded to approximately 5,600 square meters, enabling simultaneous loading and installation of multiple large monopiles or jacket foundations, suitable for installation operations of current mainstream and next-generation offshore wind turbines above 20 MW.
Kongsberg Maritime will be deeply involved in the design, engineering, and delivery commissioning phases of the two new vessels. Previously, Kongsberg has supplied core equipment for multiple Cadeler vessels built by COSCO Shipping, including the DP2 system for Wind Keeper. With the T-class vessel orders secured, Cadeler's wind turbine installation fleet will expand to six vessels, covering full-chain construction capabilities from foundation transport to turbine lifting.
