India's Swaraj and Mahindra Commission 42MWp Solar Project
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 2, Swaraj Tractors, part of the Mahindra Group, and Mahindra Susten announced the commissioning of a 42 MWp group captive solar project in Bathinda, Punjab. The project is located in Teona Pujarian village, Talwandi Sabo, spanning approximately 141 acres.
The project is expected to meet around 50% of the electricity demand of Swaraj Tractors' manufacturing, assembly, and foundry plants in Mohali. It utilizes N-type TOPCon bifacial solar modules mounted on fixed-tilt structures. Over 97% of the modules were sourced from within India.
The project was developed and commissioned by Mahindra Susten. This marks the first time Mahindra Susten has supplied power to commercial and industrial customers through a group captive structure, as it previously primarily supplied power to government utilities. The remaining capacity of the project is intended to meet the renewable energy needs of other Mahindra Group entities in Punjab.
The project is expected to generate approximately 61.54 million units annually and reduce over 42,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Semi-automated robotic systems are used to clean the solar modules, saving an estimated 1.92 million liters of water annually. At the time of commissioning, it is one of the largest group captive solar projects in Punjab.
Swaraj Tractors achieved EP100 certification for all its manufacturing plants in 2023, doubling its energy productivity.
