Alight and Autoliv Commission 101 MWp Solar Plant in Finland

en.Wedoany.com Reported - A utility-scale solar plant has been commissioned in Eurajoki, in the Satakunta region on Finland's west coast. The plant was built, owned, and is operated by Alight, marking the first facility to be commissioned from the company's project pipeline in Finland. The project is implemented under a long-term virtual power purchase agreement (PPA) signed between Alight and Autoliv, adding a new source of renewable electricity to the Finnish grid.

The power purchase agreement will support Autoliv's efforts to expand its use of renewable electricity across the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region and enhance its long-term energy supply resilience. This arrangement also helps Autoliv advance its energy transition goals.

The Eurajoki plant is the first to be commissioned from Alight's pipeline of solar and energy storage projects in Finland, which exceeds 1 gigawatt (GW). This single plant increases Finland's total utility-scale solar installed capacity by 12%. According to Renewables Finland, as of the end of June 2026, Finland had 45 such plants with a combined installed capacity of 842 megawatts peak (MWp).

The plant is expected to generate approximately 100 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of around 20,000 households. The electricity generated is fed into the Finnish power system via Caruna's grid through a shared substation.

The project consists of two separate sites, managed as a single power asset and sharing one substation. Each site implements its own accompanying ecological measures: one involves habitat restoration and wetland edge improvements, while the other includes the creation of new ponds to support the surrounding ecosystem.

Alight CEO Warren Campbell stated that the commissioning of the plant is a significant milestone in the company's development in Finland and an example of tangible results from long-term partnerships. He noted that through collaboration with Autoliv, one of Finland's largest solar plants has been put into operation, adding renewable electricity to the grid and demonstrating the role solar power can play in Finland's energy system.

Securing renewable energy through long-term corporate power purchase agreements is becoming a common way for companies to ensure predictable energy costs while driving the addition of new renewable capacity to the grid. Autoliv stated that this agreement forms part of its broader global climate strategy.

Kaisa Tarna-Mani, Vice President of Sustainability at Autoliv, said the company has consistently integrated sustainability into all aspects of its business, continuing to deliver world-class safety products to customers while reducing the environmental impact of its own operations. This PPA supports the development of additional renewable electricity, bringing the company closer to its goal of achieving carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030, while also enhancing the resilience of its energy supply.

The plant commissioning ceremony was attended by representatives from Alight and Autoliv, as well as politicians, local stakeholders, grid partners, financing institutions, and project partners. The plant secured €46 million in senior debt financing from ABN AMRO and SEB.
