The Japanese engineering company Chiyoda Corporation has recently secured a new contract for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. The project is commissioned by QatarEnergy as part of its LNG production capacity expansion plan for the North Field.

According to the contract, Chiyoda will be responsible for the front-end engineering design (FEED) of the onshore facilities for the North Field West LNG project, located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. This project represents the third LNG production capacity expansion based on the North Field. Upon completion, Qatar's total annual LNG production capacity is expected to increase to 142 million tons.

Through its local entity in Qatar, Chiyoda Almana Engineering, the company has executed over 100 projects for local clients.

The North Field is jointly owned by Qatar and Iran, with the Iranian portion known as the South Pars gas field. The field spans over 6,000 square kilometers, with estimated recoverable reserves exceeding 900 trillion standard cubic feet. By implementing a series of expansion plans, including the North Field East, South, and now the West projects, Qatar aims to gradually increase its annual LNG production capacity from 77 million tons to 142 million tons by 2030.
