Wedoany.com Report on Feb 3rd, The personal AI assistant project Clawdbot, after facing legal challenges and a brief name change to Moltbot, has officially settled on the new name OpenClaw. Project founder Peter Steinberger stated that they have avoided copyright issues through trademark research and obtaining permission from OpenAI. Steinberger wrote in a blog post: "The lobster has molted into its final form." The project gained over 100,000 GitHub stars within two months, demonstrating its rapid development momentum.

The OpenClaw community recently launched an AI social network called Moltbook, which allows AI assistants to communicate and interact with each other. This platform has attracted attention from AI researchers and developers. Former Tesla AI Director Andrej Karpathy called it "the most incredible sci-fi-adjacent thing I've seen recently." British programmer Simon Willison also commented on his blog that Moltbook is "the most interesting place on the internet right now."
The Moltbook platform operates through a skill system and downloadable instruction files. AI agents can share various technical topics in forums called "Submolts." Willison also pointed out that the method of fetching and executing instructions from the network poses security risks. Steinberger responded to this: "Security remains our top priority." The latest version has been improved in terms of security.
Despite receiving support from the open-source community, OpenClaw still faces technical challenges. Steinberger warned users: "Prompt injection is still an unsolved problem across the industry." Project maintainer Shadow stated on Discord that the tool is currently mainly suitable for tech enthusiasts. To support development, OpenClaw has opened sponsorship channels, with funds going towards maintainer compensation rather than being retained personally.
Investor Ben Tossell believes open-source AI tools hold significant value: "We need to support people like Peter who are building open-source tools that anyone can pick up and use." As the community expands and security measures improve, OpenClaw and its AI social network Moltbook will continue to explore new possibilities in the field of AI assistants.
