Wedoany.com Report on Feb 3rd, Malawi's leading mobile operator, TNM plc, recently visited the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) to discuss the country's digital transformation progress. TNM's management presented the company's development blueprint and investment strategy at the meeting, with a primary focus on promoting advanced communication technology nationwide.

TNM CEO Michel Hebert stated, "We are continuously advancing mobile technology upgrades in Malawi, covering 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, and mobile money services." The company emphasized that its core objective is to ensure that people across all regions have access to communication technology connectivity and digital tools, thereby supporting socio-economic progress.
MACRA Acting Director General Mayamako Nkoloma noted that the regulatory body supports TNM's expansion plans, including assisting in coordinating foreign exchange matters with the central bank to facilitate infrastructure investment. He also recommended that the operator optimize its customer communication mechanisms to promptly inform users about network conditions that may affect communication technology services.
Addressing industry concerns about mobile money fraud, regulators called for enhanced collaboration among peers to tackle risks. MACRA also invited TNM to participate in the Universal Service Fund's "Connecting Schools Project," aiming to jointly improve digital access levels in Malawi's educational institutions.
This meeting reflects the collaborative relationship between regulatory bodies and industry players. Both parties will continue to work together to strengthen Malawi's telecommunications ecosystem and advance the implementation of digital inclusion development nationwide.
