Wedoany.com Report on Feb 6th, Former Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman recently launched a new artificial intelligence platform called Luffu, designed to provide cross-generational health management and care support for families. The platform is positioned as a smart home care system, helping family members coordinate health, safety, and other matters.
Luffu was officially launched in San Francisco, marking a shift in health technology from individual-centric tracking to a shared care model. The platform first launched a mobile application, with plans to expand into hardware products in the future. It is currently offering a limited public beta via a waitlist.
Park and Friedman co-founded Fitbit in 2007, helping to drive the growth of the consumer wearable device market. Fitbit accumulated nearly 150 million users worldwide before being acquired by Google in 2021. After leaving Fitbit, the founders' focus shifted from personal health metrics to family caregiving responsibilities.
Park stated, "At Fitbit, we focused on individual health—but after leaving, health became more important to me than just thinking about myself. I've cared for my parents across state lines, needing to piece together medical information from various sources. Luffu is the product we wished existed, something that could help us understand our family's health status and know when to step in without needing constant supervision."
According to related research, approximately 63 million adults in the United States currently serve as family caregivers, accounting for about a quarter of the adult population. This number has grown by 45% over the past decade. Caregiving responsibilities often fall on people in their 40s to 50s, who must balance the multiple demands of careers, children, and aging parents.
Friedman pointed out, "We manage care for three generations—children at home, busy parents in the middle, and my father in his 80s with diabetes who still wants to maintain independence. In moments of crisis, fragmented information poses real risks."
Luffu's system uses artificial intelligence technology to collect and organize family health information, learn patterns, and flag changes. Features include proactive alerts, a shared care circle, medication and symptom logging through multiple methods, and health Q&A in plain language. The platform emphasizes privacy and user control, allowing individuals to autonomously decide the scope and recipients of information sharing.
The launch of Luffu reflects a trend in the health technology field: shifting from passive tracking to proactive, contextualized care. The platform focuses on the caregiver demographic, aiming to reduce the mental burden of caregiving by centralizing health information management. The company's long-term vision includes building a hardware ecosystem to complement the service platform's functionality.
