Wedoany.com Report on Feb 11th, In 2025, China's shipbuilding industry delivered an impressive performance report. Data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on February 1st shows that this year, China's shipbuilding completion volume reached 53.69 million deadweight tons, accounting for 56.1% of the global total; new orders received amounted to 107.82 million deadweight tons, accounting for 69.0% of the global total; and the order backlog stood at 274.42 million deadweight tons, accounting for 66.8% of the global total. These three major indicators have maintained a leading global market share for 16 consecutive years.

China's shipbuilding industry has not only achieved outstanding results in scale but also made significant progress in high-quality development. In terms of greening, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry successfully delivered the world's first methanol dual-fuel powered ultra-large crude carrier, while companies like COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry secured a large batch of methanol dual-fuel container ship orders. Three Drops New Energy Technology introduced the world's first standard modular battery-swapping ship, providing innovative practices for zero-carbon inland waterway transportation. In terms of high-end development, companies like Hudong-Zhonghua achieved a leading global position in annual orders for large liquefied natural gas carriers. China State Shipbuilding Corporation's second large cruise ship had its construction cycle shortened by nearly 8 months compared to the first. Regarding intelligence, companies under China State Shipbuilding Corporation, such as Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, have newly built or renovated smart workshops, achieving full automation and digital control in key processes, with production efficiency increasing by over 15%.

Shen Xiayi, Vice President of the Research Institute at Lianhe Securities, stated that China's shipbuilding industry is leveraging its strong systemic resilience and innovation momentum to sail into a new channel of high-quality development. However, compared to traditional powerhouses like South Korea and Japan, China still has gaps in areas such as cutting-edge technology reserves, the degree of autonomy in high-end supporting systems, brand premium, and service soft power. In the future, China's shipbuilding industry needs to continue innovating, consolidating its advantages and addressing its weaknesses, to carve out its coordinates for high-quality development in the global ocean economy.
