London-listed Unicorn Mineral Resources recently announced positive progress in glycine leach tests on tailings samples from the Klein Aub copper mine in Namibia, showing improved copper recovery and boosting confidence in the project's economic viability. The tests were conducted by chemical technology provider Draslovka, utilizing its proprietary glycine extraction process.
Unicorn Mineral Resources noted that by optimizing oxidation conditions, extending processing time, and increasing temperature, copper recovery from the tailings was significantly enhanced. The upward trend in test data indicates there is still room for improvement in the reaction process, and further optimization in the future may lead to even higher recovery rates. Currently, the tests primarily focus on copper extraction, and the company plans to subsequently study the recovery potential of silver.
These preliminary data have been submitted for independent analysis to ensure accuracy and credibility. Meanwhile, Unicorn Mineral Resources is advancing its efforts to acquire a 75% interest in the Klein Aub project. According to an announcement in November 2025, the transaction is expected to be completed in April. Chairman Paddy Doherty stated, "We are very pleased to collaborate with Draslovka on these tests. Their expertise in glycine leaching technology, an environmentally friendly method that helps extract value from tailings, is driving this project from the conceptual stage towards commercial viability."
