Instrument Principle

This instrument adopts the ultraviolet fluorescence method. The basic working principle is: a zinc lamp emits ultraviolet light, filtered by a monochromatic filter to monochromatic light at 214nm wavelength and focused into the SO₂ reaction chamber. SO₂ in the sample gas absorbs ultraviolet light to produce energy level transition, SO₂ changes from ground state to excited state. The excited SO₂ is unstable and instantly emits fluorescence with a center wavelength of 330nm. The strength of the fluorescence is proportional to the SO₂ concentration. The photomultiplier tube converts the light signal into an electrical signal to measure the SO₂ concentration. To eliminate measurement errors caused by optical path fluctuations, two monitoring paths are used in the optical path: one measures the excited fluorescence intensity as the sample gas optical path, the other measures the reference optical path, monitoring changes in the zinc lamp light source and automatically compensating for light source changes.
