Fujitsu's network subsidiary, 1Finity, has launched an open optical line system (OLS) focused on enhancing the efficiency and performance of managed fiber services. This system features a modular design, supporting data center interconnect, metro, and long-haul transmission, with reliable scalability.

1Finity's Hyperlight L1000/L2000 OLS achieves high-capacity performance of up to 800 Gb/s (800G) and beyond through an optimized direct connection architecture, reducing power consumption and footprint while scaling from 1 to 16 degrees across the continuous C+L band. Its integrated tools provide fiber connection verification, wavelength design and planning, and advanced diagnostics, facilitating proactive maintenance and rapid issue resolution.
The design supports multi-span transmission, ensuring long-term power and space efficiency, and is equipped with open wavelength selective switches (WSS) for optimized operations. 1Finity states that this performance aids the interoperability of reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers (ROADMs), reducing costs and increasing network component choices, utilizing modular building blocks to support various transmission modes. Hideki Matsui, Senior Vice President of the 1Finity Optical Systems Business Unit, noted that these features are particularly useful in the current AI expansion.
Matsui said: "The Hyperlight L1000/L2000 OLS enables communication service providers, hyperscalers, and cloud providers to reliably deliver optimized managed fiber services and core optical infrastructure, using the same simple, compact design applicable anywhere. Providing open, performance-optimized, and reliable connectivity, this next-generation optical line system establishes a scalable foundation for evolving network demands, empowering growth in the AI era and beyond."
1Finity's L1000/L2000 system is the company's first major open OLS since its spin-off from Fujitsu last summer, integrating various divisions including Fujitsu's Network Service Engineering, Telecom Networks, and Mobile Technology Group. The company offers optical and wireless hardware, software, and services, led by CEO Masaaki Morishima, former senior executive vice president of Fujitsu and a veteran of the NTT Group.
