Wedoany.com Report on Mar 3rd, The Monroe Avenue Stormwater Treatment Facility in Renton, Washington, USA, constructed in collaboration with contractor Otak Inc., has been awarded the Gold Medal for Uniqueness and Innovative Application of Technology by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Washington (ACEC-WA). This stormwater treatment facility project was completed in January 2025, becoming the largest stormwater infiltration system in Western Washington.

The Monroe Avenue Stormwater Treatment Facility covers three acres and is located near the Jimi Hendrix Memorial across from Monroe Avenue. It collects runoff from the 260-acre Renton Highlands area. The facility employs a multi-stage treatment process that effectively removes debris, pollutants, and fine particles. The treated water then infiltrates into the ground, recharging the aquifer and eventually flowing into the Cedar River.
The stormwater treatment facility project was completed four months ahead of schedule and within budget. It reduces reliance on a former quarry for handling heavy rain events. The Washington State Department of Ecology provided 85% of the construction funding through a Stormwater Quality Grant. City officials noted that this facility represents a significant advancement in managing urban runoff and protecting downstream waterways.
