Wedoany.com Report on Mar 9th, Willmott Dixon is constructing a £136 million mixed-use development on the site of the former Bute Street Shoppers car park in Luton. Named The Stage, the project will be predominantly residential, featuring 292 residential apartments, along with commercial units, a food hall/event space, and a public garden square.

The project team also includes WSP and Rider Levett Bucknall as employer's agent and project manager, and Artelia UK as quantity surveyor. Local councillors, council leadership, project partners, and stakeholders gathered at the site on March 5th for the groundbreaking ceremony.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Simon Ramage, Managing Director for London and East at Willmott Dixon Construction, said: "The groundbreaking ceremony not only marks progress on site but is also a recognition of the people behind the project. Today we celebrate everyone who has helped turn the vision for The Stage into a reality. We are proud that this project will not only deliver a great building but will also create jobs, opportunities, and a lasting legacy for the local community." He emphasized that this residential quarter will be a significant step in the revitalization of Luton town centre.
This development will be built on a site previously used as a car park, bringing new residential and commercial spaces to Luton town centre. As part of Luton's broader town centre regeneration plan, The Stage project aims to enhance the vitality and appeal of the area through the creation of a modern residential quarter. It is expected to provide high-quality living environments for local residents and stimulate surrounding commercial development.
