Wedoany.com Report on Mar 13th, Mondelēz International, the company known for food brands such as Cadbury, Oreo, and Toblerone, has announced a new achievement in its sustainability journey. In preparation for Easter 2026, its Cadbury chocolate range will switch to recyclable packaging. Through collaboration with its global partner Amcor, the company is working on solutions to advance its sustainability goals.

The collaboration between the two companies aims to make Easter celebrations more sustainable. The packaging bags for Cadbury Mini Eggs will be made from 65% certified recycled plastic. Large and small Cadbury Easter chocolate bars will be wrapped in packaging containing 80% certified recycled plastic. The ribbon handles on the Cadbury Special Moments Easter Egg range have been replaced with recyclable cardboard handles, making it easier for consumers to recycle after use.

The Easter 2026 packaging utilizes Amcor's AmFiniti recycled content technology, which operates by converting post-consumer plastic waste into new packaging. Through this partnership, approximately 134 tonnes of post-consumer recycled plastic will be sourced to produce packaging for the Cadbury Easter range, equivalent to 70 million Mini Eggs bags.

Janice Narainsamy, Senior Product Development Engineer at Amcor, said: "It's fantastic to see our collaboration with Mondelēz International come to life through AmFiniti recycled content technology in iconic products like Cadbury Mini Eggs. Extending recycled content to seasonal favorites like the Easter range showcases what's possible when innovation and partnership combine. This milestone demonstrates how we can integrate more circular packaging solutions at scale while maintaining the performance and quality consumers expect."

As part of its global 'Lightweight and Rationalize Packaging' strategy, Mondelēz International aims to reduce virgin plastic in its rigid plastic packaging by at least 25% by 2030. Other goals include designing 98% of its packaging to be recyclable by 2030 and providing clear consumer recycling information. As of 2026, 96% of Mondelēz International's total packaging is designed to be recyclable. The new Mini Eggs packaging offers clear recycling information, highlighting the product as a sustainable choice for consumers.

Last year, Mondelēz International launched the Cadbury Easter Selection Bag with outer packaging made from paper and removed 6.4 million plastic windows from its Easter egg range. This year's revised Mini Eggs packaging continues Mondelēz International's ambition for sustainable packaging in its seasonal chocolate ranges. With Amcor's sustainable packaging solutions, Mondelēz International is moving closer to its own sustainability goals while encouraging consumers to make climate-conscious choices in their purchasing and consumption behaviors.

Joanna Dias, Sustainability Lead for Mondelēz UK and Ireland, said: "Our Cadbury Mini Eggs range is an iconic Easter treat, beloved by people across the UK and Ireland, and it's an exciting moment as we increase the use of recycled plastic packaging across our Easter range. Continuing to work with Amcor to scale our impact, Cadbury Mini Eggs this Easter is another significant milestone for Mondelēz UK and Ireland as we work towards achieving Mondelēz International's global sustainability goal of reducing virgin plastic use."

The Cadbury Mini Eggs packaging bag will include a QR code on the back that consumers can scan for more information about the product's use of recycled materials and Mondelēz International's sustainable packaging approach. Easter 2026 provides a key opportunity for Mondelēz International to advance its sustainability ambitions by increasing the use of recycled plastic and influencing sustainable consumer behavior.
