Wedoany.com Report on Mar 14th, The board of directors of Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has approved a plan to order six liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container ships with a capacity of 13,000 TEU.
These new LNG dual-fuel container ships will be used to replace older vessels in the fleet and those with expiring charters, which have capacities ranging from 4,250 to 6,500 TEU. Yang Ming Marine expects that the 13,000 TEU class vessels will become a core component of its east-west shipping services.
The company is advancing its medium-to-long-term development goals, planning to operate a fleet of 124 vessels by 2032, with a total capacity reaching 1.25 million TEU. Simultaneously, Yang Ming Marine aims to capture a 3% to 3.5% share of the global container shipping market.
Yang Ming Marine stated that the 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships are compatible with its existing 10,000 TEU fleet and can be flexibly deployed on major trade routes, including those between Asia and the US East Coast, West Coast, South America, and the Mediterranean.
These vessels will incorporate advanced energy-saving designs to reduce fuel consumption, with the delivery of the first LNG dual-fuel container ships expected to begin this year. This initiative will help Yang Ming Marine optimize its fleet structure and enhance operational efficiency.
