en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 23rd, Recently, the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (AGIS) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) signed a cooperation agreement with the International Potato Center (CIP) to establish a joint laboratory, marking a new stage of strategic and systematic collaboration between the two parties. Huang Sanwen, President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Simon Heck, Director General of the International Potato Center; Hugo Campos, Deputy Director General of the International Potato Center; Xie Jianmin, Director of the CIP Asia-Pacific Center; and others attended the signing ceremony.Signing Ceremony for the Joint Laboratory Establishment Agreement

According to the agreement, the two parties will focus on cutting-edge fields such as potato germplasm resources research, hybrid potato variety breeding, and pest and disease control. Leveraging AGIS's advanced technological advantages in agricultural genomics, diploid hybrid potato breeding, and molecular breeding techniques, and combining with CIP's resource and channel strengths in potato germplasm resources, international research networks, and global technology extension, they will jointly build the AGIS-CIP Joint Laboratory.

In recent years, AGIS and CIP have jointly established the Global Hybrid Potato Consortium with multiple institutions worldwide. Last year, the two parties jointly applied for the FAO South-South Cooperation Hybrid Potato Project, promoting the adoption of Chinese hybrid potato technology in Africa and safeguarding global food security through concrete actions.

Moving forward, AGIS will continue to deepen international cooperation across the entire chain of potato germplasm resource innovation, technology R&D, and industrial promotion. It will work hand-in-hand to tackle challenges in industrial development, share scientific research and innovation achievements, and enable hybrid potato technology to benefit more countries and regions. This will contribute greater strength to promoting the high-quality development of the global potato industry and fortifying the world's food security line.
