After three years of evaluation across diverse environmental conditions, these varieties have been approved for registration and market release by the Tanzanian government. Field trials show yields of up to approximately 3,270 kilograms per hectare (2,920 pounds per acre), a 30% increase over older varieties, while also exhibiting resistance to environmental stresses such as disease and drought.
Helio Moura, the company's Senior Vice President of Environment, Sustainability, and Crop Governance, stated that farmers currently face increasingly unpredictable growing conditions, including variable weather patterns and pest and disease pressure, and seed innovation is one way to address these challenges.
