en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 24th, The European Commission has recently approved a €5 billion Danish state aid scheme aimed at promoting the construction and development of the offshore wind industry. This aid scheme will last for 20 years, providing support for the construction and operation of two offshore wind projects: Hesselø and North Sea I Mid.

The expected capacities of these two wind projects are at least 0.8 GW and 1 GW respectively, with a total electricity output estimated to be equivalent to approximately 25% of Denmark's total electricity generation last year. The aid will be implemented through a two-way Contract for Difference (CfD) mechanism with a monthly variable premium linked to market prices.

The European Commission stated that this aid scheme complies with EU state aid rules, is a necessary and appropriate measure, and aligns with the objectives of the Clean Industrial Deal. This approval is based on the Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework adopted in June 2025.

As a pioneering country in offshore wind development, Denmark's large-scale aid scheme will further advance its renewable energy deployment. Upon completion, the two offshore wind projects will provide crucial support for Denmark's energy transition and help the country achieve its climate goals. The European Commission's approval also provides a reference path for other member states regarding state aid in the clean energy sector.
