en.Wedoany.com Reported - Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has selected TGES, a subsidiary of the Tokyo Gas Group, to participate in its "Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project." The project is funded by METI through contributions to the ASEAN-Japan Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC) under the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships, aiming to support large-scale demonstration activities in ASEAN member states.

TGES stated that this demonstration project, valued at approximately 37 billion yen (about $22.8 million), will install around 20 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and approximately 20 MW of photovoltaic (PV) capacity at multiple factories with high electricity demand in Thailand, using an on-site power purchase agreement model. Under this model, solar power is used directly during the day, with excess solar energy charging the batteries, and the stored electricity is released in the evening or during peak demand periods.

TGES noted that this is the company's first overseas demonstration of such an integrated BESS-PV power supply technology. It cited examples of solar and lithium-ion battery installations at Honda's Kumamoto plant and Hosoe outboard motor factory in Shizuoka Prefecture in November 2024 as part of its technical track record.

TGES said that the widespread adoption of solar energy in Thailand has led to midday power surpluses and grid stability challenges. This demonstration aims to test whether battery storage can absorb excess solar generation and shift it to high-demand periods.

The company stated that it will collect performance data on system effectiveness, equipment reliability, and operating conditions in Thailand's hot and humid climate to support the broader commercial deployment of Japanese-made industrial BESS and PV equipment in the country.

TGES is a subsidiary of the Tokyo Gas Group, operating under the "IGNITURE" solutions brand launched by the group in 2023, which focuses on three pillars: decarbonization, optimization, and resilience.
