en.Wedoany.com Report, On March 22, Wedoany.com reported that China's first fully domestically-produced chain solution-process 100,000 tons/year polyolefin elastomer (POE) industrial unit at Sinopec Tianjin Petrochemical has entered a critical stage of integrated test run. This complete set of technology, building upon the successful operation of the first 50,000 tons/year POE industrial demonstration unit with independent intellectual property rights at Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical, has achieved a full-chain domestic upgrade encompassing "catalyst + process technology + unit equipment + automatic control system." Simultaneously, Sinopec is advancing the construction of a 100,000 tons/year POE unit at Zhenhai Refining & Chemical, marking the entry of domestically-produced solution-process POE production technology into a comprehensive capacity expansion phase.

Due to its characteristics such as high elasticity, low density, ease of processing and recycling, and strong weather resistance, POE has wide applications in fields like photovoltaics and new energy vehicles. China's POE consumption has grown from 640,000 tons in 2021 to 1.11 million tons in 2025, with an average annual compound growth rate exceeding 14.7%, making it one of the world's major POE consumer markets. Due to high technical barriers, China's POE products have long relied on imports, with an import dependency rate of about 76% in 2025.

Since 2012, Sinopec has organized the Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry to conduct related research, followed by engineering technology development, achieving breakthroughs in catalysts and polymerization processes. The independently developed metallocene catalyst features high activity and controllable cost, enabling stable production of POE products with different structural properties when combined with process conditions. The independently developed devolatilization technology ensures low VOC content in the products, achieving an odor level that meets high industry standards. The domestic content rate of equipment for the Tianjin Petrochemical POE unit, now entering the integrated test run stage, has been increased to 99%.

With the commissioning of the POE units at Tianjin Petrochemical and Zhenhai Refining & Chemical, Sinopec will possess an annual POE production capacity of 250,000 tons, which is expected to increase China's POE self-sufficiency rate by approximately 23% and reduce the import dependency rate to around 53%.
