en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 27th, London-based resource management company Reconomy announced that its brand Eurokey has invested approximately $26.6 million to build a 138,000-square-foot plastic recycling facility in Corby, Northamptonshire, UK. This project aims to enhance the UK's domestic plastic recycling capacity and reduce reliance on exports and the use of virgin plastics. The facility will focus on providing a closed-loop system for supermarkets, retailers, and grocery stores, processing sorted multi-grade plastic materials and converting them into plastic pellets for manufacturing reusable plastic packaging.

Reconomy stated that this plastic recycling plant will become one of the UK's larger dedicated facilities, helping to address the shortage of large-scale domestic recycling infrastructure. The company noted that the UK currently relies on exporting plastic materials due to insufficient processing capacity, and this investment will change that situation. Mike Benton, Managing Director of Recycle at Reconomy, said: "This is a significant milestone for our business and the UK's plastic recycling industry. The facility will play a crucial role in increasing domestic recycling capacity, reducing dependence on virgin plastics, and keeping high-quality materials in circulation."

One of the advantages of the new site is its proximity to Eurokey's sorting facility in Kettering, less than ten miles away, which will help reduce transportation costs, lower carbon emissions, and optimize operational efficiency. Zubair Bajwa, Operations Director at Eurokey, said: "We are extremely proud to be playing an active role in strengthening the UK's plastic recycling industry at this time. For over 30 years, our operations have helped major UK supermarkets and retailers improve the recycling potential of plastic materials. This new site will enable us to further provide circular solutions for our customers."

The construction phase of the plastic recycling plant is nearing completion and is expected to be fully operational in the second half of 2026. At full capacity, it will recycle approximately 38,000 tonnes of plastic materials annually. Additionally, the site is projected to create over 30 new jobs, boosting the local economy.
