A new intermodal freight service has commenced between the SST terminal at the Port of Trieste and the Malpensa Intermodal terminal in Sacconago, Busto Arsizio. The first train, carrying 34 containers, swap bodies, and semi-trailers, arrived on December 5, 2024, having departed from Trieste earlier that day.
This development is a result of cooperation between the Port of Trieste, represented by Alpe Adria, Danish logistics operator DFDS, SBB Cargo, and Malpensa Intermodale, a subsidiary of the FNM Group responsible for managing the Sacconago terminal.
The Sacconago terminal has undergone infrastructure improvements since its reactivation in 2021, and the new service adds to its connectivity with destinations in southern Italy and northern Europe.
