en.Wedoany.com Reported - On April 22, 2026, Swiss company SITA announced it has entered into a partnership with Vietnam's Sun Group to deploy passenger processing technology solutions for Phu Quoc International Airport. Sun Group began operating the airport in January 2026, and this technology deployment is expected to be completed before the 2027 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

Under the partnership, SITA will deploy a full suite of airport technology in the new terminal. Passengers will be able to check in, select seats, and print boarding passes using 150 SITA Smart Path self-service kiosks. Additionally, 100 SITA Smart Path self-service bag drop units will be provided, along with 38 dual-lane SITA Smart Path boarding gates for automated boarding. SITA Flex Hybrid will support 204 common-use workstations, and baggage tracking will be handled via SITA Bag Manager Lite.

Phu Quoc International Airport handled approximately 6 million passengers in 2025. It is projected to reach an annual passenger capacity of 24 million after the new Terminal 2 becomes operational in 2027, with a long-term design capacity expandable to 50 million passengers. Ongoing work at the airport includes a second runway, a new international terminal and a VIP terminal, as well as expanded aprons and supporting infrastructure.

Nguyen Chi Thanh, President of Sun Group, stated: "SITA's proven expertise and end-to-end technology capabilities will play a key role in helping us deliver a smarter, more efficient, and seamless passenger experience." Sumesh Patel, President of SITA Asia Pacific, described the partnership as "a key milestone aimed at supporting the region's growth with future-proof infrastructure."

Sun Group and SITA have been partners since 2019, when SITA delivered technology solutions at Van Don Airport. The Phu Quoc model will be replicated at Phan Thiet Airport and in planned development projects for Con Dao and Rach Gia. The group aims to operate at least five airports in Vietnam within the next five years. This partnership complements another agreement Sun Group reached with Changi Airport International of Singapore in March 2026, which covers the full lifecycle development of Phu Quoc Island Airport.
