en.Wedoany.com Reported - AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings has introduced the single-coat Aerobase primer solution, designed to optimize the performance and efficiency of aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) paint processes. This innovative technology replaces the traditional two-coat process with a proven single-coat system, reducing application time, complexity, and total film thickness while ensuring high-quality finishes in mixed fleets.

Specifically developed for the global MRO mixed fleet market, the product is certified and ready for immediate use, enabling facilities to quickly adopt the single-coat process. The development program focused on optimizing application control, film thickness consistency, and finish quality, enhancing the formulation to provide approximately 40% better anti-sag performance compared to the previous system.

Field testing on single-aisle aircraft in 2025 demonstrated a 36% reduction in total film thickness compared to the two-coat system. This reduction did not compromise durability or appearance while supporting productivity and finish quality. The decreased film thickness also contributes to reduced aircraft operational weight, thereby helping airlines lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

"MROs are under constant pressure to improve efficiency without sacrificing quality," said Aurore Bournazel, Manager for OEM, MRO, and Airline Segments. "This latest Aerobase development delivers a proven single-coat process that simplifies application, improves consistency, and offers measurable performance benefits."

The solution will be available in commonly used aerospace white, supporting immediate adoption by airlines and MRO operators. Technical teams are assisting facilities with process development, validation, and application training to ensure consistent results. Additional aircraft applications in collaboration with two MROs are underway, including single-aisle and wide-body aircraft, and are expected to provide further real-world performance data to evaluate efficiency, weight reduction, and finish quality.

The product is certified for the global MRO mixed fleet market. OEM testing and approval are planned, with full rollout expected in 2026.
