en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish workwear and corporate clothing company Velilla Group, in partnership with global intralogistics solutions provider Dematic, has completed the full automation upgrade of its logistics center in Albacete. The facility, which opened in 2009, covers an area of 56,000 square meters, including 27,000 square meters of warehouse space, and had previously undergone three expansions in 2019, 2020, and 2022.
This upgrade has boosted the center's daily processing capacity to over 120,000 garments, corresponding to approximately 1,500 orders, which can be fulfilled within 24 hours for distribution to more than 80 countries worldwide. Velilla Group's product catalog has surpassed 18,000 SKUs, with business expansion in recent years driven by the 2020 acquisition of Mukua, a stake in Qooquer in 2024, and its VPro safety footwear brand.
Velilla's collaboration with Dematic began in 2007, aiming to address the dual challenges of a growing product catalog and seasonal demand peaks. The solution developed by Dematic connects the entire logistics flow: from receiving goods via BK10 conveyors, to sequencing using the Dematic DMS2 multi-shuttle system, then through automated palletizing with robotic arms and dispatch via the PK25 pallet system, all integrated with an automated storage system. The core equipment is an automated pallet high-bay warehouse featuring 5 aisles, 14 levels, and a height of 30 meters, equipped with 22,680 storage locations and capable of handling 30 dual cycles per hour.
The new system also includes a robotic palletizing area, transfer cars, stretch wrappers, contour and weight control, and a non-conforming goods platform, with software that automatically configures pallet patterns based on packaging master data, enhancing operational flexibility. The new warehouse management system was switched over without interrupting business operations, running in parallel with the old system. Consulting firm Idom participated in the development and implementation of the eight-year logistics master plan.
