en.Wedoany.com Reported - Germany's Paderborn-based startup Palprint is attempting to replace disposable packaging commonly used in industrial logistics with the help of 3D printing and recycled PET (r-PET) materials. The solution has received €125,000 in funding from the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) and has been showcased at the IFAT trade fair.

Founders Paul Lindner and Andreas Ribul-Olzer stated: "We produce precisely fitting packaging for specific parts, based on recycled PET—a material also commonly used for manufacturing disposable and reusable bottles." Currently, a large number of standardized packaging sizes are oversized and unsuitable for non-standard components in mechanical engineering, often consuming space in warehousing and becoming waste after a single use. Through on-demand, customized 3D printing solutions, Palprint aims to significantly reduce this type of material waste.

The company not only offers size-matched custom packaging but also delivers a complete system. Depending on customer requirements, it can supply partner manufacturers' 3D printers, proprietary software, and materials together, enabling users to automatically generate and print the required packaging locally based on the 3D data of the items to be packed. The team is also collaborating with the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) and the Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) to advance an additive manufacturing process for a recycled PET foam. Compared to conventional PET, this foam can rapidly expand to 75% of its original volume and reduce weight by up to 90%, making it suitable for quickly producing large-format packaging components with a foam-like texture.
