en.Wedoany.com Reported - Transition Industries LLC's Pacific Mexinol project has signed a collaboration agreement with Mexico's National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) to implement a Payment for Environmental Services program in the state of Sinaloa, with co-funding dedicated to wetland conservation.

Raúl Rubio, Environmental Manager for Pacific Mexinol, stated: "This agreement strengthens Pacific Mexinol's commitment to environmental sustainability and the development of the communities where we operate. Wetland conservation not only protects the region's biodiversity and ecosystem services but also enhances resilience to climate change and creates economic opportunities for the local Ejido."

Under this long-term agreement, funds will be distributed annually and disbursed through a co-investment fund scheme, with Pacific Mexinol contributing 50% of the funding and CONAFOR providing the remaining 50%. Local residents of the Guadalupe Plan Ejido community will be responsible for carrying out compensation and conservation activities with professional technical support. Pacific Mexinol's Environmental and Social Impact Assessment confirmed that the project avoids impacts on sensitive ecosystems such as mangroves and button mangrove scrub. However, the project has committed to implementing additional measures, including collaborating with CONAFOR to promote mangrove conservation projects. Despite having no impact on sensitive ecosystems, the Mexican Environmental Impact Statement requires 7.15 hectares of reforestation and cactus planting, as well as 6 hectares of mangrove restoration. As part of its commitment, the project reached an agreement with CONAFOR to protect a total of 600 hectares of wetlands, approximately 100 times the area required by the Environmental Impact Statement.

This Payment for Environmental Services program, promoted by CONAFOR, currently benefits 3,221 projects, of which 92% correspond to Ejidos and communities. It incentivizes the active conservation of forests, jungles, arid zones, and mangroves through economic support. The agreement also complements environmental initiatives already implemented by Pacific Mexinol in the region, including a municipal wastewater treatment and reuse system, as well as a 15-hectare "Conservation Area" containing natural vegetation that will not be developed or undergo land-use change, serving to protect button mangrove scrub and increase vulnerable species populations.

Pacific Mexinol is designed as a next-generation facility under a net-zero model, with an investment exceeding $3.3 billion, aiming to produce methanol through a sustainable and competitive approach. Once operational, the facility will utilize NX-AdWinMethanol Zero technology to produce 6,140 metric tons per day of green and blue methanol. The project is located approximately 9 kilometers from the Port of Topolobampo, near a natural gas pipeline from Texas, USA. The project will use wastewater from the city of Los Mochis, avoiding competition for freshwater and protecting Ohuira Bay, while utilizing renewable energy through Clean Energy Certificates. It will create over 6,000 jobs during construction and at least 450 permanent positions during operation.
